On Dec. 9, 2017, associates and residents at Life Care Center of Pensacola, Florida, got to see a rare sight – snow!
The day before, with the forecast calling for snow, facility leaders helped celebrate the winter novelty by making slow cooker hot chocolate and brining out cookies.
“We had a couple of residents who stayed up all night to see if they could see it snowing,” said Jennifer Lindley, executive director. “Most report finally falling asleep before the flurries started. They said hot cocoa and yummy cookies warmed them up and they fell asleep.”
Kaitlyn Campbell, social services assistant, gathered the snow that fell on her car in the wee hours of the morning and made a 5-inch snowman.
“How many times can we say this happens in Florida?” said Lindley.
